Tales of Texas
Texan Land & Cattle v. City of Houston
Mr. Hill was lead counsel in the trial court successfully trying the “Wood Oil” portion of the case to the court and the damages to the jury. Thereafter, in upholding the judgement the intermediate Court of Appeals set out a thorough analysis of prejudgment interest, as applied to an inverse eminent domain case. This case resulted in a large recovery on a zero offer. Mr. Hill highlighted in the case that a bad or no initial offer, does not project the final outcome.
Taub v. Dedman
One of the longest running cases in Harris County lasting almost two decades. Mr. Hill was lead counsel in this seminal case. It took 16 years with appeals to conclude. This case stands for many propositions including a thorough analysis of material and substantial impairment of access and once again regardless of sovereign immunity the government may be sued for a taking. This case settled for monetary and non-monetary consideration. Mr. Hill learned throughout this case that in the realm of law, perseverance triumphs over time, his unwavering commitment ensured success in this case regardless of its duration.
